My book was translated without my knowledge; the English
translation was published without my consent.
I never met with the translator and she never sent me a copy of
her work.
It was not until 1996 that I got a hand on the book. I was horrified
by the many mistakes the translator had made. I immediately
contacted the publisher but it was not until 1997 that they
accepted to publish an errata sheet.
I thank Brian King and Miller Williams for their cooperation in
resolving this very unpleasant situation at that time.
The translator never contacted me to apologize for the mess she
made.
I strongly suggest that authors demand to review their texts
when there is a translation in the works. The media will just kill
you (the author) if the translator made mistakes.
It was a privilege to receive the Deems-Taylor Award from the
ASCAP for my work – even though I found out 3 years after the
nomination !
